Retro-Reflective Material As the legislation now stands, referring to the National Road Traffic Regulations, 2000, side and rear retro-reflective material (contour markings) will have to be fitted to our caravan. The National Road Traffic Regulation 192A (2) reads as follows:
According to Pieter Crouse, from Tygerberg Caravans, extension was given to dealers that retro-reflective material must fitted only to caravans that were built after the 01st July 2004. This means that the existing stock that the dealers have on their floors, may be sold without the retro-reflective materiaal. This extension has not yet been confirmed by the authorities. Current owners of caravans will still have to comply to the Regulation 192A (d) when the time comes. The average cost of this tape may vary between R20.00 and, up to, R30.00 per meter. This means that a 5 meter long caravan will cost you between R250.00 to R400.00 to keep legal by 01st January 2006. With the courtesy of Tygerberg Caravans, photographs were taken to show how this contour markings is fitted to the caravans. It is particularly interesting to how the rear reflective material was fitted. Information by Anton Groenewald & Photographs by Riaan van Zyl. (click on the photo to enlarge) |
