I am inclosing photos taken of my one of my caravan wheels which I scrapped recently. The spare tyre has never been used. Take note that this caravan is parked inside a closed garage and stored on tressles in between rallies. The tyres do not touch the ground. What a life!! The reason for scrapping them was when I bought the caravan, I enquired from Firestone Technical Department as to which tyre they recommend. I explained that I prefer using a car tyre as 'Bakkie' tyres were much more rigid and would cause unnecessary road vibration to the caravan structure. He suggested using Firestone 211's, which I did. He however warned me that NO make or type of tyre was safe to use after 5 years, regardless of the ware. I took a change and pushed it to 5˝ years. The dealer called me and showed me what one tyre looked like. As you can see from the photos the tread is still perfect for another 10 years. As the decay happened on the inside, we never observe it. It just shows you!! I have since opted for 'Bakkie' tyres but will definitely take the same steps in five years time. Change them!! Hope this is useful"
