Background

The Tygerberg Academic Hospital is situated in Bellville, City of Cape Town in the Western Cape Province of the Republic of South Africa.  It is contributing largely to the vision of the Provincial Administration of the Western Cape (PAWC) i.e. to improve the quality of life for all the people of the Province.

As its name indicates, it is not only a hospital providing affordable, world-class health care to all its patients but serves also as an educational and research institution.  To achieve its mission and goals effectively, the Tygerberg Hospital has since its opening in 1976, relied on the important contribution of the Department of Social Work of the hospital to satisfy the psychosocial needs of the patients and their families within its catchment area.

From Tygerberg Region

Tygerberg Region holds an annual Teddy Bear collection at the end of every year.  These collections will be going towards this project in future.  Last years collection of Teddy Bears and night gowns for children was presented to the Assistant Director, Manette de Jager, by Riaan and Ilse van Zyl, Chairman of Tygerberg region, earlier this year.
