Level Your Caravan at the Camp SiteWhen
parking your caravan at the campsite, it is necessary to level the caravan
laterally and longitudinally: a spirit level is mighty useful for this purpose.
Longitudinally,
(along the length of the van) after unhitching the van, I first place a 30cm
square 3mm thick steel plate on the ground where the steadies are to be lowered
onto. Wooden blocks will also suffice. This ensures a very stable surface so
that the steadies do not sink into the ground while camping. I use the jockey
wheel handle to raise or lower the nose until level. Now, by simply lowering the
steadies onto the steel plates or wooden blocks and the van is level. There is
virtually no grunting and running around the van trying to get that extra
centimeter of lift to get my van level. The steadies should be down enough
simply to hold the van steady, and leaving the mass on the axle where it is
meant to be. Do not try to level your van with the steadies, as this will
definitely not only damage the steadies, but could possibly distort the chassis.
The steadies are only what they are, steadies! After your stay, please ensure that should you have dug a hole for the wheel, please fill it up again. It is good manners and courteous to leave your campsite clean, and in a good state of repair when departing. You expect to find your site clean and without holes when you arrive, please ensure that you do the same!
